Sean Payton says he is sorry for the bounty scandal that has resulted in his season-long suspension and that he takes “full responsibility†for it. In a written statement released by the New Orleans Saints on Friday evening, Payton says he shares and fully supports the NFL’s concerns and goals concerning player safety. Payton also says that respecting the game and the NFL shield—a reference to the league’s famous logo—is extremely important to him. The coach says the Saints will implement all necessary protections and protocols, and that he will be “more vigilant going forward.†Payton says he also thanks team owner Tom Benson, his players and Saints fans “for their overwhelming support.â€

Go forth and sin no more. Win another Super Bowl and all will be forgiven.

Payton is one of my favorite coaches in the league. But this statement:

...it does nothing for me at all. It's pretty much a cookie cutter response.

all the statements given by athletes sound alike.

Yea, cookie cutter response but I'd imagine there's some bitterness since a staple of the NFL. & one that everyone knew about, has made him the poster child for all that's wrong in the NFL bounty era & costing him 5.8 mil to boot.

He needs to pay for his part/lying but personally I don't expect too much grovelling since he's not only been taken behind the woodshed but beaten with every board from it.

that is all you will hear from Payton about this matter. He should take this year and devise more plays for next year and come back with a vengeance.

I've been seeing things on the Web that say Fox is thinking of using him as an analyst for the coming NFL season.

    Thoughts?

not really too sure about that. I think he will do some but I bet he will be in the playbook.

Wonder how long it will be until Fox gets a memo from one Roger Goodell telling them that's not a very good idea.

SP has no choice but to give a vanilla, cookie-cutter statement. He has to go back next year and state his case why he should be allowed to coach to the SAME guy who suspended him.

I am curious about one thing....If Goodell put out an order that all bounties stop two years ago, because of player safety, why wait so long to take action?

Goodell is all about the "I' and "me" and has proved it time and time again with his inconsistent penalties and fines. He is the end all be all for the NFL and is acting like the dictator thug that he is.

The league is due for lawsuit after lawsuit from retired and active players due to concussions, The Cowboys and Redskins for the salary cap, and most likely a lawsuit from Gregg Williams.
