Bert Sugar, an iconic boxing writer and sports historian who was known for his trademark fedora and ever-present cigar, died Sunday of cardiac arrest. He was 75.Jennifer Frawley, Sugar's daughter, said his wife, Suzanne, was by his side when he died at Northern Westchester Hospital. Sugar also had been battling lung cancer."Just his intelligence and his wit and his sense of humor," Frawley said when asked what she will remember about her father. RIP. He was a regular on The Norm Hitzges Show here in Dallas on The Ticket. Every time there was a big fight, he'd be on Norm's show and they'd talk about it. Funny guy. Prolific author. Wrote a lot of books. He will be missed.
Boxing lost a good man. Bert Sugar always had some amazing tales from back in the day. His work on Classic Sports Network (which eventually was bought by ESPN and made into ESPN Classic) was amazing. I know I'll be missing him and will enjoy whenever they replay any of his appearances.
