Last week, free agent safety LaRon Landry signed a one-year contract with the New York Jets that had a maximum value of $3.5 million. The deal included a $950,000 signing bonus, a $700,000 base salary, a $100,000 workout bonus and $1.75 million in per game roster bonuses. According to a source with knowledge of the contract details, there's also a clause that prohibits the Jets from using the Franchise or Transition tag on Landry in 2013. A first-round pick out of LSU by the Washington Redskins in 2007, Landry has 383 tackles, 5.5 sacks, four interceptions, six forced fumbles and 31 passes defensed during his five-year career. An instant Pro Bowler, Landry has missed 15 games over the last two seasons with Achilles and groin injuries and his deal with the Jets is essentially an opportunity to prove that he can remain healthy and productive over a full season for the first time since 2009. That's a pretty smart move on Landry's side specially since if he plays at a high level his stock price is gonna go up and would be in a good position for a nice long tern deal to the highest bidder.
