The 49ers and Raiders won’t be meeting in an exhibition game this preseason, a result of the fan violence and parking-lot shootings that marred their Aug. 20 meeting at Candlestick Park. The Bay Area’s NFL franchises had played each other in 11 consecutive exhibition seasons and 12 of the past 13. But off-field feuds hit a new level in their last meeting, both during and after the 49ers’ 17-3 win over the Raiders at CandlestickPark. Fights broke out in the stands and two men were shot in separate parking-lot incidents. A larger police presence and stricter tailgate rules went into effect for the 49ers’ ensuing home games.

not that pre-season match ups mean anything but, seriously, we're going to scrap an entire geographic rivalry?
