The Dallas Cowboys have claimed quarterback Rudy Carpenter off waivers from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Howard Balzer of 101 ESPN in St. Louis reports. Carpenter was waived on Tuesday and is signed through the 2012 season at a base salary of $615,000. Originally signed by the Cowboys as undrafted out of Arizona State, the 6-foot-2, 220-pound Carpenter spent most of his rookie season on the practice squad before he was signed to the Buccaneers' 53-man roster late in the season. Carpenter made his NFL debut in a Week 13 loss to the Carolina Panthers, taking one snap for an injured Josh Freeman. In Dallas, Carpenter will compete for the No. 3 job behind Tony Romo and Kyle Orton with 2009 fourth round pick Stephen McGee. Source: Mac's Football Blog
I think he is a good backup. Cant do anything well enough to be a long term starter in the NFL, but does everything well enough that you dont have to tear down the playbook if he's pressed in I think he beats out McGee this time around
