On the night before his final game as defensive coordinator of the New Orleans Saints, defensive coordinator Gregg Williams instructed his players to inflict not just big hits on San Francisco 49ers offensive players, but implied additional payments and suggested specific injuries on certain players, Michael Silver of Yahoo! Sports reports. Silver's source is documentary filmmaker Sean Pamphilon, who is working on a project featuring former Saints special teams ace Steve Gleason, who is suffering from ALS. Pamphilon posted an audio recording of Williams' expletive-laced speech on his website. (NSFW) "We’ve got to do everything in the world to make sure we kill Frank Gore’s head," Williams said. "We want him running sideways. We want his head sideways." Also during the speech, Williams makes specific mentions of other players' body parts. Williams mentions wide receiver Michael Crabtree's knee and taking a shot at wide receiver/return specialist Kyle Williams, who had sustained a concussion a few weeks earlier. Tight end Vernon Davis' ankles were also mentioned, as well as going after quarterback Alex Smith, with Williams referencing the preseason opener where the Saints threw blitz after blitz at Smith, constantly hitting him. According to Pamphilon, Williams rubbed his thumb and middle finger together when discussing hits on Smith, saying "I got the first one. I got the first one. Go get it. Go lay that [expletive] out."

Telling the players to take someone out isn't bad, what's really bad IMO is that Williams also identified different body parts that his team should zero in on to injury the players, saying to keep hitting Gore in the head after the play and they're getting off the pile and to take out the outside ACL of Crabtree and indicating getting more money to do that is just wrong.

As a 49er fan it's hard to hear but as a fan of football most people should be shocked and upset.

When the whole bounty thing came out i taught everyone was overreacting but after listing to the audio. This sick heck needs to be banned from ever coaching at any level. I played football from peewee to college and i never heard a coach talk like that. Even against a big rival.

Yeah now its much easier to know why Goodell made the decision he made... That video was hecked up! one thing is to pump up your defense and tell them to play physical but the guy was telling players to go for ACL, ankles, players with concussions.

I hope he never coaches ever again

In Williams' defense, it was a pre-game speech. Now keeping that in mind, I'd like to hear the Niners pre-game speech, it was obviously better than Greg Williams and the Niners were the more "violent" team out there...lol.

Sorry there's NO defense for a coach telling his guys to take out certain body parts and indicating there's more money in it for them...heck him. If the 49ers did this I'd say get rid of whatever coach said that...

I am not saying it's not wrong, because it is, but I felt the audio would be more condemning... The part that is messed up to me is the extra pay for taking out another player. Really the specific mention of a players knee or head is not unheard of. When your opponent has a weakness, you exploit that weakness... That said I am not defending Williams, just thought we'd hear him say $X.XX to the play who knocks {insert 49er player here} out...

He's done for if he already wasn't. I'd like a guy with that intensity leading my D, but the fact that he made those kind of damning statements when he knew there was a documentarian in the room is downright goobered. He deserves any and everything he gets now.

The only real bad parts of his speech is his crabtree acl and Williams concussion comments . That's what is going to cost him his carrier.

i think the biggest issue here which led to the indefnite ban was the fact that this video/audio tape came about after the saints were told by the nfl to knock it off.

Not only that, they were told a few days before this tape was recorded that the investigation was reopened and he immediately turns around and gets caught ON TAPE urging players to injure others for money...how dumb can you be?

I'm sorry, but this goes beyond football. At the bear minimum, Jeff Fisher should fire Williams as the Rams DC, friendship or no friendship. For calling out specific players, he should be banned for life. It will make no difference, because no team will even hire him to be their waterboy.
