Stan Van Gundy said he knows his franchise player, Dwight Howard, has asked that he be fired as coach of the Orlando Magic, and get this: Van Gundy claimed his sources are better than any reporter's."I was told it was true by people in our management," Van Gundy said Thursday, just hours before the Magic lost to the New York Knicks 96-80. "So right from the top."In what had to be one of the most bizarre game-day scenes in NBA history, Van Gundy confirmed a WKMG-TV report that Howard is pushing for his ouster, and did so right before the center walked through a circle of news media members and embraced his coach."They haven't told me anything," Van Gundy said of Orlando management, "and they don't need to. I'm the coach right now, and I'm the coach until they decide I'm not the coach. It's 12:02 right now. If they want to fire me at 12:05, I'll go home and find something to do. I'll have a good day."

That whole situation is a hecked up mess. Dwight Howard is making himself look like a whiny little snitch kid. No good coach is going to want to take a job coaching him. And I don't see why any great player would want to play with him. He's just a big baby. I'm glad the bulls didn't get him and I hope he never wins a title.

seen that on tv. Howard walked up and put his arm around Van Gundy. He didn't know he told the media that he was the one who asked that he be fired. then went out and quit on the team.

Yeah but SVG had the same thing happen to him in Miami so I can't fault him too much for being tired of that kind of bullcrap. He really is a pretty good coach, Dwight needs to stop being a raging vag**a.

well, van gundy obviously lost this team a long time ago because they don't show up for games on a regular basis. the effort is very erratic. maybe he feels like he has done everything he can to save the team and has given up so he's taking it public.

In the NBA nowadays there are not that many what I call good coaches. It is all one on one slam dunks or breakaway runs. It used to be a focus on running plays but not now. Some folks like that, some don't. I personally don't. I am a defensive minded person.. Would like to see some good defense than good offense. No surprise to me that the good teams usually play very good defense.

Eh, compared to the average NBA coach Orlando could do a lot worse. When the Pacers fired JOB I would not have minded giving SVG a look...fortunately Frank Vogel + Brian Shaw seems to be working out.

lost all respect for both of them. Howard, for acting like a spoiled child, and Gundy, for airing it out in public. I can't really blame him though but act more professionally.

I think neither of the guys are bad people I just think they handled this the wrong way.

I don't like the way Howard went to get Gundy fired and then came up and put his arm around Gundy during the press conference and asked him if he shot down the false reporting of Howard wanting him gone.
