Word out of Patriots nation is that the team is "very pleased" with the development of fourth-year quarterback Brian Hoyer and see him as a potential starter according to Shalise Manza Young of the Boston Globe. The team showed their faith in Hoyer by tendering the restricted free agent at a second round level this offseason. Hoyer has been with the Patriots since signing as an undrafted free agent out of Michigan State in 2009, given the number of quarterback- hungry teams in the NFL, the Patriots expected to field offers for Hoyer but none materialized and he signed his tender two weeks ago. Hoyer has attempted all of 43 career passes, but put up solid preseason numbers, still only 26, he is likely to be a hot commodity when he really hits the free agent market in 2013. Till then, Hoyer says "I'm just happy to be here." There are a lot of worse jobs in America than backing up superstar Tom Brady. Source: The Redzone
This is nothing new. The patriots have been extremely high on him for a long time. Last I knew he we was still considered the heir apparent to Tom even though they drafted Mallet.
