During an appearance on the online interview show Barfly, former Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb said he saw himself as a Hall of Famer, even invoking the name of a few former greats to make his point. "Absolutely," McNabb said when asked if he would vote for himself for the Hall of Fame. "One thing that people don’t realize [is] I never played the game to make it to the Hall of Fame. I played the game because I love it. I played the game to win. I’m a competitor. When I step out on that field, I feel like I’m the best player on the field. ... I played at the pinnacle, I played at the highest of my career. And I would vote for myself for the Hall of Fame, and I played with probably two or three other Hall of Famers." The biggest criticism of McNabb is similar to that of Tony Romo -- that he never won the big game. During an 11-year stint in Philadelphia, McNabb led the Eagles to five NFC Championship games, but he failed to win a Super Bowl title. "Peyton never won the big game until he won the Super Bowl finally. Dan Marino never won the big game. But does that mean his career is a failure? No, not at all," McNabb said. "And a lot of times, if we want to sit and look at the numbers for certain players, then we need to look at numbers for all of them. When we want to sit and look at numbers -- because that’s what it is when it comes to the Hall of Fame -- my numbers are better than Jim Kelly, better than Troy Aikman, better than a lot of the guys who are in the Hall of Fame. But the one thing they do have is a Super Bowl."

Yeah, I have to admit I've grown weary of hearing his opinions lol. Just go away dude! At least Favre had the common decency to drop off the map once he actually did retire. :icon_eek:

McNabb is a freaking goober. He needs to eat his chunky soup and shut the heck up.

His reasoning is correct though. I mean crap, Troy Aikman, Terry Bradshaw, John Elway, Joe Montana. Some of the greatest quarterbacks anyone will every see. And none of them won a super bowl until they finally won one.

    damnit. beat me to it.

    hahaha.

seriously though, mcnabb being in the h.o.f. is going to spur a lot of debate over the next several years.

on his side, he did win a lot of games in the regular season and in the playoffs. he came 'close' to leading the league in passing on a few occassions and did receive a lot of league MVP votes through the years.

however, he never led the league in passing. he never passed for 4,000 yards. he never won an MVP award, he never won a super bowl (and, in fact, many people think McNabb LOST the SB for the Eagles in 2004).

He has fewer career passing yards than dave krieg and boomer esiason and mcnabb played in a more pass-happy timeframe in the league, so that doesn't really help his case.

i really don't think he has the numbers, accolades, or rings that the h.o.f. usually looks for but it's somewhat borderline so it wouldn't shock me if he gets in eventually. It will probably just depend on who his h.o.f. representative is that will be presenting his body of work to the committee.

I think he should get in not by alot but he should people may hate him because of his mouth in the end what he says isnt whats going to decide. I do think most people just love to hate him i mean if someone asked you if your a hall of famer you would TRY to make a case for it not just be like na i shouldent go

How can you induct someone whose legacy is being a loser, a choker, and a large factor of a supremely talented teams' inability to win a championship.

Him being a dislikeable moron is just a bonus.

He doesent have a superbowl but he did win alot of playoff games and for the most part was pretty successfull. Its not easy to win a superbowl and i dont think he should be judged by that alone. Not saying that cause he was an eagle if it was any other player that did the same exact thing my opinion wouldent change.

In all fairness, phigles isn't here to defend him...so I ask that you all take it easy on "5."

Having said that, Hall of Fame? No.

Someone should make sure McNabb hasn't broken his arm patting himself on the back so hard.

    LOL!!

No way does he get into the HOF. I think Bledsoe should get in before McNabb.. And I don't think Bledsoe is worthy either. my .02

Pretty borderline at best. A case could be made...when he was good he was certainly that caliber of player, but he wasnt that good that often, and the way his career fizzled and died isnt going to help him at all. Hes certainly not a unanimous first ballot guy, and hes probably going to have to get lucky and sneak in a weak class after hes been waiting a while.
