General Manager Jeff Ireland gave no indication Thursday the Dolphins are leaning toward Texas A&M quarterback Ryan Tannehill when they pick eighth in next Thursday's NFL Draft, instead emphasizing the team would like to add "starter type" of players in the first few rounds according to Brian Biggane of the Palm Beach Post. During his annual pre-draft press conference that lasted nearly 30 minutes, Ireland said he and his staff finalized their draft board Wednesday night and that he has "a pretty good feeling at what I want at eight." But, he added, "Every time I see another good player, that's a consideration at eight. I'm like, 'Wooh, that would be a good player to have.' There's some really good players in this year's draft, especially in the top 10. Some real impact players." While the consensus among league insiders is the Dolphins will take Tannehill with their first pick if he's available, Tannehill had fewer than 20 starts for the Aggies and is considered years away from becoming an impact player. With a new coaching staff and Ireland himself on the hot seat, logic dictates a more NFL-ready choice is a strong possibility. Ireland admitted that the team has some "pretty glaring" needs, though he didn't get into specifics. An edge pass rusher, right offensive tackle and wide receiver are all on the list, Ireland channeled his mentor, Bill Parcells, in discussing what kind of player fits his criteria. "I've always been big, strong, fast," he said. "That's what I'm looking for: big, strong, fast and intelligent."

Tannehill is overated in my opinion. That being said I could see the dolphins trading up for Tannehill just to guarantee they get him.

there's a discussion going on right now on pft that if the phins don't take tannehill at #8, he's going to fall big-time like rodgers and quinn because teams will be wondering what's wrong with him if sherman doesn't even want him.
