The Oakland Raiders have announced the signing of free agent wide receiver Duke Calhoun, who participated in the team's voluntary mini-camp this week on a tryout basis. Undrafted out of the University of Memphis in 2010, Calhoun received a $20,000 signing bonus to join the New York Giants where he caught one pass for 4 yards and recorded seven special teams tackles in nine games as a rookie. The Giants released Calhoun as part of their first series of cuts during last year's training camp. Calhoun spent the entire 2011 season as a street free agent and worked out for the Jacksonville Jaguars on January 4. Calhoun adds needed depth to a Raiders receiving corps that consisted of just five players -- Darrius Heyward-Bey, Jacoby Ford, Louis Murphy, Denarius Moore and Eddie McGee -- before Friday.
