Eagles Willing To Trade CB Asante Samuel For 5th Or 6th

The asking price for four-time Pro Bowl cornerback Asante Samuel is dropping. Reports the Philadelphia Eagles "we're looking for a 3d or 4th rd pick for (Samuel) were wrong. They are willing to take a 5th or 6th," tweeted Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer. It's an interesting revelation. The Denver Post reported Thursday the Broncos have already offered a fifth- or sixth-round draft pick for Samuel, a deal the Eagles rejected. The Broncos were reportedly turned away on a separate proposal involving an undisclosed player. We're looking at a surprisingly low cost for a proven cornerback who started 14 games last season, it speaks to Andy Reid's desire to streamline a defensive backfield that had players operating out of position last season.

The only problem is you have to take on his expensive contract. I think he is due 11 mil this year.

The hell is he smoking. Wouldn't be surprised if Samuel is not on plane to meet with any team outside the nfc east before Monday.

There has to be something they aren't letting on to. AS must have pissed someone off.

Shoulda traded his butt last year. Let DRC and Nnamdi go man coverage and already have a year under their belts as #1 and #2. Woulda got at least a third last year.

    Ah, hindsight...

Obviously his contract is the main reason why he's on the block, but I don't want him going anywhere.

Do you want Asante for another year or Shady locked up long term?

I would prefer Shady locked up, but ideally, I want both.

a team that wants to play cover 2 a lot would love to have A.S. but, as stated, it's tough to pay a guy that can really only play cover2 that much money. They may end up having to cut him and then a team can sign him to a more reasonable contract for what he provides on the field.

Some team will trade for him if he is willing to restructure his contract.

does that ever happen in the nfl though? i can't remember a time when that has happened. typically, if a guy is un-tradeable because of his contract, the team just has to release him outright and then when the player clears waivers, his contract is null and void and the new team will then sign him to a brand new contract.
