The golf career is on hold for Tony Romo, at least this spring it is. The Dallas Cowboys quarterback will not enter a qualifying tournament for the U.S. Open as he has in recent springs. Romo is an avid golfer and a skilled player on the links. The fact is all NFL players have plenty of time to tee it up in the offseason, even in the midst of offseason programs, that are largely voluntary in nature, but Romo won’t be aiming for a shot in a major event this summer according to Carlos Mendez of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. “I don’t think anybody has doubted his dedication, but I do think there is a perception that goes along with that,†tight end Jason Witten, Romo’s teammate, said. “And there’s something to be said for that. I don’t think that takes anything away from what he does on the football field. He is the first one in and the last one to leave. He has been that way for a long time.†Romo had a fine season a year ago when he passed for 4,184 yards and 31 touchdowns but the Cowboys were not in the postseason and that is how things are judged ultimately. “I believe he will put us in position to be successful this year,†Witten said. “He is an elite quarterback. Until he wins a championship, until we do that, the critics are going to come. The thing about him, he is so far past that. He knows he has one goal. He is all into doing that.†“It starts at the top. You show that commitment, there is no doubt about it. It trickles down. I think he’s definitely the leader of that group, to send that message.â€

He tried for the last 5 years and never qualified, he should be focusing on football.

When he did the u.s open challenge in 2010 he shot 84. He is a good amateur golfer put he is no where near the level of the worst pros.
