Detroit Lions president Tom Lewand in a web chat with season ticket holders said the team has offered defensive end Cliff Avril some very significant multi-year offers according to Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press. "We continue to have dialogue with Cliff and his agent," Lewand said. "We have made him some very significant multi-year offers. We look forward to having him this year, at least on the franchise tag, and hopefully, beyond.â€￾ Avril has indicated he wants a long-term deal and says he will not sign the franchise tender.

eh, unless we know the particulars, this is very vague. is their definition of 'significant' a 5 year/$50 mill deal?

i have a feeling that due to avril's young age and his inflated ego, he's probably looking for a long-term $80 or $100 mill deal (similar to mario williams) and the Lions may not be getting close to that.

He deserves big money but not Mario Williams money.

I wouldn't give him 40, I think he's overrated and self centered and could be a product of that system

well, considering before suh and vandenbosch arrived, he was heading down the same career path as someone like randy starks or cory redding (pedestrian rotational DE), i tend to agree. but he's smart. his stock will never be higher so he's going to try and cash in.
