No team signed restricted free-agent Mike Wallace by the deadline, according to ESPN's Andrew Brandt, so he'll remain with the Steelers this season. The Steelers' front office took a risk by not putting the franchise tag on Wallace and won $7 million with that gamble. If you want to be specific, the Steelers netted $6.8 million by putting a first-round tender on Wallace ($2.7 million) instead of the tag ($9.5 million). He has until June 15 to sign it before the Steelers can get cut the tender to $577,500 -- a loss of $2.1 million. Source: ESPN.com
He can skip all camps and all without punishment, but he will have to sign it when he starts losing money due to fines. Not many players hold out once they start getting money taken away.
If he doesn't sign it by mid-June, he loses about $2.2 million as the Steelers can lower the tender to $577500...
i must admit i'm a little surprised no one would give a 1st rounder for wallace ............. half the teams will whiff on their 1st round picks next week ........... why not get the sure thing?
Money, I can't say I think he's versatile enough to be one of the highest paid WRs out there.. He's good, but not elite in my opinion. Worth a pick, yes, worth a big deal, quite possibly. But for both I'd want a little more bang for my buck, but that's just my opinion. I'll be the first to point out that most of what I've watched of him has been against the Browns, who have never matched up well against his speed.
Wallace is better than Blackmon or Floyd...both of which could be selected in Round One... I'm also not sold that he's asking for a ridiculous amount of money...I think that's all media...we haven't heard anything from Wallace other than a tweet that said not to believe everything you hear.
I'm talking about right now...and I probably should've said the "better pick" since you know exactly what he is and it's not like he's old.
