Giants defensive end Osi Umenyiora is not optimistic about the team giving him the contract extension he seeks, that is keeping him on edge, wondering if the Giants will trade him during the draft. Umenyiora is about to enter the final year of his contract that will pay him around $4 million next season. The Giants have players younger then Umenyiora such as Victor Cruz, Hakeem Nicks, Jason Pierre-Paul and Justin Tuck who will be looking for more money in the near future and Umenyiora does not feel that giving him a new contract is a priority for the Giants. Giant defensive end Osi Umenyiora said he thinks the Giants might choose to trade him during the draft, and he's losing sleep as the uncertainty mounts. (AP Photo) “It’s a business, I understand their perspective,†Umenyiora said in New York on Wednesday, promoting the NFL Play 60 Youth Football for Xbox 360 Kinect. Umenyiora said he thinks the Giants could opt to trade him this weekend during the draft, but he would prefer to stay and sign an extension. “I love the Giants,†Umenyiora said. “Would I want to (stay with the Giants)? I think that would be ideal. I think I would if things could be worked out. Next year if I leave, they won’t get anything. So if they are going to do it (trade him), now would be the best time.†Source: Sporting News
