The Indianapolis Colts are interested in trading defensive end Dwight Freeney and moving down from the No. 34 pick, Peter King of Sports Illustrated reports. Freeney is the Colts' all-time sack leader, but the 32-year-old is scheduled to earn $14.035 million in base salary and has a $19.035 million salary cap number in the final year of his current contract. The Colts are also moving from a 4-3 to a 3-4 defense under first-year head coach Chuck Pagano and Freeney may be a better fit on another club. As for trading the No. 34 pick, King said the Colts are looking to add to their front seven and would ideally like to pick up another pick in the Top 80. Indianapolis has 10 draft choices total, but four are between picks 206 and 253, with those two particular selections of the compensatory variety (and thus are not able to be traded).

Yeesh like the Samual trade, Freeny would probably need to agree to a pay cut.

yep. same sort of deal where they couldn't give the guy away with his current contract.

Not saying it'll happen, just saying it's possible

Freeney and #34 to Panthers for their 1st rounder and Jimmy Clausen or Greg Hardy

LMAO! Horrible trade. The only thing positive in that trade is the Colts getting a second pick in the top ten.

7th rounder and half the salary. Count me in.

I could realistically see a 3rd or 4th and a huge pay cut. But my money says he stays put in Indy.

I don't think they're going to be competitive this year. I don't think they're going to resign him beyond this year. And I think they're going to hit free-agency hard (they cut all those players for cap room), negating the potential for a compensatory pick.

I agree you don't get rid of him for a 7th, but you should try to get something for him.
