The Buffalo Bills have released veteran cornerback Drayton Florence, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports. Florence, 31, has spent the last three seasons with the Bills, starting 45 of 46 games and totaling 168 tackles, seven interceptions -- including two he returned for touchdowns -- and 38 passes defensed. Florence signed a three-year, $15 million contract with the Bills last July that included a $4 million base salary and $250,000 roster bonus for the 2012 season. Releasing Florence will save the Bills $4 million in cash from his base salary and $3.333 million in salary cap space. Florence became expendable after the Bills used the 10th overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft on South Carolina cornerback Stephon Gilmore and a fourth round pick on LSU cornerback Ron Brooks. um, can someone please explain the bills logic with this? yes, he's going to make $4 mill this year but he's been their best CB for the last 3 years, probably has a couple of decent years left and if they had kept him, they would have had a solid secondary. now, by getting rid of him, they're probably right back where they were last year ...............
Florence did not play great last year. They drafted Gilmore, McGee is coming back from injury. They also have A. Williams, McKelvin and Brooks. I would have rather seen them release McKelvin but they have to much invested in him.
well, that's kind of my point. Florence didn't play 'as well' as his previous years, but he was still their best CB. They had plenty of CB's that played way worse that should have been cut before Florence. Florence may not have played as well last year but he's still a legit #1 cb and will make someone a great #2 cb for the next year or 2.
They are going to count on youth. McGee is the only veteran on that CB core. We will see how it goes.
