Former NFL linebacker Junior Seau died Wednesday of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the chest. Three days later, his family granted a request from researchers to study Seau's brain for evidence of damage resulting from concussions, pastor Shawn Mitchell told the Los Angeles Times. Now, according to Reuters, the family is reconsidering that decision. "They have now stepped back from what they were thinking initially," Mitchell said on Saturday. "Nothing is definite right now." Asked if the family would allow researchers to eventually examine Seau's brain, Mitchell said "I don't want to give the impression they're not going to anymore," before adding: "We thought everything was kind of nailed, and now it's in flux." Mitchell said the family wants to discuss matter before proceeding. "They just want to slow down, be sure they're doing it right," he said. "With the incredible, incredible anguish and grief and pressure of this situation, they've been in a fog. Now, they're getting counsel."

He intentionally suffered a less than instantaneous death for this exact purpose. To do anything other than allow a full examination is to insult the man in his death.

That's exactly what i was thinking. But in some cultures those kind of things are frowned upon. Maybe he killed him self the way he did just because. Without a note there is no answer.

Pretty much exactly like Dave Duerson...only it seems like Seau didn't leave any "instruction" like Duerson did...

Maybe he just wanted to be able to have an open casket funeral? :icon_confused:

Donating his brain would at the very least make this tragedy have some sort of penance.
