According to a source close to former New Orleans Saints defensive coordinator Gregg Williams, the NFL misrepresented what Williams said in interviews with the league. According to the source, Williams never admitted a "bounty program" was in place and that the league "rephrased his statements to satisfy its needs." The source also said Williams never identified any players for their involvement in a pay-for-performance or bounty program. The league also twisted the truth about what former Saints defensive end Anthony Hargrove said in his signed declaration. According to the NFL's statement Hargrove's declaration "established not only the existence of the program at the Saints, but also that he knew about and participated in it." At no time in Hargrove's declaration did he specifically admit to those things. Source: Mike Triplett, The Times-Picayune
at what point does the NFL just lay it all on the table and put this crap to rest. my guess.....never.
I would doubt that the NFL twisted things around. If anyone twisted them around I would bet it was the media. They take crap out of context all day, every day, and turn nothing into a big crap storm. I read that whole paper Hargrove signed, and one of the first things I thought when I read it was, he didn't admit he did anything. He said he was told to play dumb about bounties and that the coaches made it seem like if he said what they wanted he would have a chance to be a starter. Then he went on to say he was never given a chance to be a starter. He also said he never gave any money into a bounty program. Never said he did anything wrong, never said there was a bounty program, only said he was told to say there was not a bounty program.
