Typically, NFL teams do everything they can to ensure outstanding attendance at their offseason workouts, which are voluntary with the exception of one mandatory minicamp, but the Detroit Lions have asked one player to stay away from OTA’s, which began today for the club. Wide receiver Titus Young is being barred from participating after he sucker-punched teammate Louis Delmas during a voluntary workout last week, according to Anwar Richardson of MLive.com. Young, who got a senseless personal foul the last time the Lions were on the field for real in an NFC playoff game against the New Orleans Saints, was not present today. Per the report, Young and Delmas got into a fight last week, Young “punched Delmas when he was not looking,†according to Richardson, Lions coach Jim Schwartz declined to address the issue when speaking with reporters. “This is the voluntary part of our offseason program," Schwartz said. "There is no need to comment. It sort of entails that it is not voluntary. I'm not going to comment on any other thing, other than (Stephen) Tulloch (who will miss the next few weeks to an injury) because Tulloch will be down for a significant period of time.†This is not a good sign for a young wide receiver that really needs to step forward this season, it's also proof positive that the lack of discipline the Lions have exhibited on and off the field exists in practice too.
