For the second year in a row the NFL has a lockout on its' hands. Last year it was the players, this year it is the officials, but unlike last year, the NFL is planning on playing with replacement officials. Mike Carey, one of the most respected referees in the NFL believes there is no doubt there will be a significant impact with replacements. Carey joined XX Sports Radio in San Diego, by way of Sportsradiointerviews and said, "You just don’t walk out on a field and contend with that speed and size and impact and the complexity of the NFL rules. It’s a completely different game.†Carey was asked about the state of negotiations and said, “I don’t know because I don’t know the details of either side’s proposal specifically. That’s all confidential discussion. But I’m surprised at it, to tell you the truth, because the board we have is a pretty amenable board.†“From my position, I think that all of the major league officials get paid pretty much the same amount, independent of number of games or how hard they have to prepare or when they work, because all of the seasons are about seven months long. So we believe that we should be — I believe, anyway — that we should be paid on par with all the other officials, especially that we’re the wealthiest league there is.†Source: The Redzone
Reality is, this is likely the truth. Bring in the B or C squad and see how much all of us are snitching week after week.
thought RG was into players safety. this can have a huge impact on games on many levels. Killing drives on bullcrap calls, players taking advantage of the inexperience of the refs and possibly getting hurt. Not sure what they refs are asking but it can't be that much. I think the league can afford it. These people are some tight butt mfers. Squeeze the dollar so hard the eagle be grinning.
