Jets defensive tackle Kenrick Ellis will not miss any of training camp after the Hampton Circuit Court approved an order allowing him to split his jail sentence. Ellis reported to Hampton City Jail last night in Virginia to begin serving a sentence expected to be 45 days for misdemeanor assault and battery. According to his attorney, Tim Clancy, Ellis will be released on July 9. He will return to jail March 1 to serve the remainder of the sentence. Jets players are scheduled to report to training camp in Cortland on July 26. Source: New York Post
What the heck must be nice to be famous. I couldnt even get a 2 week delay in serving my sentence to finish out a college semester, failed every class I had worked my butt off in for months and never really got back into school as a result. Had to work fulltime when I got out to get by, couldnt get approved for new financial aid with the conviction...if they had approved my request to delay commitment I could have finished out the semester, served my time over summer break and not have skipped a beat at school. Id have a degree now and probably have lead very different life. Im cool with where Im at dont get me wrong but its always always bugged me that instead of giving me a better chance to become a contributing member of society, they did the thing that was most likely to make me a criminal and keep me in the system, and Im surely not the only one. Im sure theres plenty of people in similar.situations that took a bad path as well as a result. But this heck gets a pass because he plays freaking football. Guaranteed he's not doing his time on the mainline either. Single cell for him.
This crap pisses me off. Do the crime, do the freaking time. Because your famous, or rich doesnt mean you deserve special privledges. Put him in the 8x11 with the rest of the convicts, thats just how it should be.
