The AFC West is going to be the center of some special ESPN history. The network announced Wednesday that hall of fame announcer Chris Berman will handle the play-by-play duties during the Chargers-Raiders game on Sept. 10 in Oakland, it is the second of a Week 1 Monday Night Football doubleheader. It will be the first time Berman ever calls a regular-season NFL game. Berman will be in good company as highly-regarded ESPN analyst and former NFL quarterback Trent Dilfer will join him. The pair will warm up by calling Arizona Cardinals-Tennessee Titans MNF preseason game on Aug. 23.

Berman is okay when he doesn't force it...however, recently it seems like he's forcing it...really forcing it...

    Forcing it...

Problem here is his "good company" is Trent Dilfer...with little to no broadcast experience...

Two guys, little NFL announcing experience...could go HORRIBLY wrong!!

They have guys at ESPN that are much, much, much, MUCH better at announcing football games than Chris Berman and Trent Dilfer.

Naming Berman as the announcer is kinda a slap in the face to the guys at ESPN that do it for a living. ESPN went with a "name" to announce the game. He's definitely not the best choice and with Dilfer at his side, it's a set up for failure. Hell Berman isn't even a good "in studio" guy anymore...

Why not put TJ in there with him? Not a fan of Dilfer, and I like Boomer, but I'm skeptical of sticking him in there without JAckson

Because he's got even less announcing experience than Dilfer...who has very little. The more I think about this, the more of a bad decision by ESPN this is. Could wind up being an epic train wreck...

That was a disaster...I'm expecting it to be on a similar level...maybe a little better.

Dennis Miller was a bad fit. He was too much into making himself the show instead of just adding to the game.

The comedian idea wasnt bad, but it needs the right people and it could be amazing
