Troy Vincent, the league's vice president of player engagement, told Tom Reed of the Cleveland Plain Dealer on Wednesday that the centralized location and the proximity to the Pro Football Hall of Fame makes the area an ideal spot to conduct the rookie orientations, which stress the sport's legacy, tradition of character and leadership and professional responsibility. No immediate announcement is expected from the league as it conducts follow-up meetings on the matter, but the intention is to make the area home to the weeklong event. "This is our objective," Vincent said. "I don't see any reason why we won't be back." Vincent said the league is fulfilling the wishes of Commissioner Roger Goodell. The rookie symposium is in its 15th year and previously had alternated between West Palm Beach, Fla., and LaCosta, Calif., with one additional year in Leesburg, Va, in recent years, however, the league also has encouraged its teams to send its rookies on a visit to the hall of fame. It meant franchises needed to pay for two separate trips. Vincent acknowledged the idea of consolidating the orientation and the hall visits is a good one on several levels. "Logistically, it makes all the sense in the world," he said.
