The holdup on Brandon Weeden's contract -- and that of the three players picked behind him -- is a fully guaranteed contract for all four years, league sources said today. It's the same issue that caused Browns defensive tackle Phil Taylor, the No. 21 overall pick last year, to hold out for the first four days of training camp. With the NFL's new rookie slotting system, guaranteed money is usually the only point of contention. play first then worry about the last year on your contract. Makes me think he don't think he can do it. Wants to make sure he makes his money if he sucks. But then again he is old for a rookie and this may be his only contract.
I think that's what it comes down to. He's already what, 28? He could be 32 when this deal is up. Not a bad call if he can get it from them.
