Arbitrator Stephen Burbank ruled in favor of Drew Brees' franchise-tag grievance a league source said Tuesday. If Brees is tagged again by the Saints in 2013, it would be the third time and he would then be eligible for more than $4 million than the NFL had previously said he was due. A third tag would cost the Saints 144 percent of this year's price which is $16.4 million. NFL.com's Steve Wyche previously reported that Brees and the NFL Players Association's argument stated that since he was tagged by the San Diego Chargers in 2005 and then by the Saints he was due the increase. Brees and the Saints are currently working on a long-term extension for the star quarterback, but the deal must be finalized by July 16, otherwise Brees will have to play under the franchise-tag for the 2012 season.

The next news I want to see about Drew Brees now is that he signs long-term extension with the Saints. They need to quit dragging along, and get this done .. this week..or early next week.

i think this is what was holding it up....now everything is laid out out the table they can finalize a deal. more than likely loomis and condon have worked deals on both scenarios

huge win for franchise players BTW

Hope so. It's a bit scary not to have him signed. Though, New Orleans would riot if they let him leave. Benson, Loomis, they'd basically be hung in the streets of New Orleans if that happened.

The deal should get done soon now. If they franchise him again next year, that salary and this year will be the 20 million average he was looking for. If they do that the Saints will be over the cap next season. Still think a 5 year 100 million contract is right for him.
