Even if their Cardinals teammates prefer that John Skelton would start the season as the starting quarterback -- and that is a big if -- Kevin Kolb remains on track to be the No. 1 signal-caller on the depth chart. That's because Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt said today that Kolb would start next Sunday's Hall of Fame game vs. the Saints. That's no surprise, because even though Skelton looked better last year when he replaced the injured Kolb for about half the season (and the team actually played better under Skelton's leadership), Kolb is still the $65 million quarterback who the team won't (or can't) afford to toss away quite yet. A few days ago, Willie McGinest from the NFL Network made news when he said some of the Cardinals preferred Skelton as the team's starting quarterback, but when he heard that, Kolb said, "One of my offensive linemen was laughing about it.†Not sure if that means McGinest's report wasn't true, but if Kolb doesn't play better than Skelton in the preseason, especially if we assume he has built-in advantages because of his contract, it's not a stretch to think that Skelton could be starting this year. I heard he has a deep thigh bruise. I know the first teamers don't play much but that may be risking him for a wothless game. Our bounty hunters will be gunning for him, don't they know? Give Skelton a chance to show what he can do. Can't hurt. Let him heal up some first.
I think this will be a game some of the starters see more action. Though, the risk of having them injured in the preseason is huge, too. I'm excited for Sunday. Finally, back to football!!! And, Kolb is good. They paid him. Might as well use him.
