Dez Bryant has remained silent at training camp, running right past the media every day following practice. But Cowboys owner Jerry Jones just can’t help himself. Every time Jones has been asked about his troubled wide receiver he doesn’t hold back. Jones lauded Bryant’s play during training camp practices but again stressed that Bryant is on a short leash after the receiver was arrested in mid-July in DeSoto on a family violence charge involving his mother. “I see much improvement in Dez in every respect. But he’s screwed around here and got his benefit of the doubt collateral down to nothing,†Jones said. “And he’s always very vulnerable. Now you’ve got to act differently when you’re in those shoes. He’s got to gain a bunch of that [back]. He can do it, and he can do it right on this football field. And I hope he does.†Source: Dallas Morning News
The Cowboys won't release him unless he does something really bad. He costs too much. On a side note, in Rick Gosselin's column today in the DMN, he points out that since Roger Goodell took over the NFL in 2006, there have been 25 cases of domestic violence against players. This is the first one involving a mother. The rest have been wives, girlfriends, etc. Of those cases, Goodell has given one-game suspensions in 10 of them.
actually hes not expensive to cut at all, he signed a 5 year $11.8 million and $6.76 million of that was paid his rookie year in signing bonus, roster bonus, and base salary. They wouldnt out right cut him because it would be a major step backwards for the franchise, if jerry gets fed up enough to trade him (he wont) he would still probably warrant a first round pick or 2 second round picks as compensation
A first or 2 seconds? Seriously? With his baggage? No way. Gosselin said earlier that the Cowboys would be lucky if they got a third-rounder for him.
Brandon Marshall took 2 seconds. The dude is a top 5 talent in the very near future, an outright cut he would be picked up immediately
Dez is gonna haveva big season this. 80 catches and no way we take less then a first Marshal was a certifiable nutjob. Sent from my HTC Vivid
LOL how does he get the benefit of the doubt??? "Hey Dez come on in, so what happened?" "Well Mr.Jones, I beat my mom up..." "I'll give you the benefit of the doubt"
How so. Dez caught almost 70 passes for almost a K and had 9 TDs. On top of that Austin is already hurt. 80 is rather conservative factoring everything in Sent from my HTC Vivid
Because I think there's always going to be something going on with him. When Jerry's phone rings at 2 AM, he'll know who and what it's about.
Right because football players as a group are generally extremely intelligent and "together" people. These are the same dumb jocks they were in your high school only all growed up and with a bunch of money. What do you expect, that they suddenly became Rhodes Scholars? Myron Rolle being the obvious exception lol. The vast majority of them are still the same dumb heckin knuckleheads and they ALL have more talent than brains.
Have you ever heard Emmit Smith talk in his prime. You think he is bad now. "Weez bouts to win us another world champeeeeonship. We gots de offense, n we gots de defense" That was his United Way commercial Sent from my HTC Vivid
I don't think that's stupid. That's just not being used to public speaking. Did you see his NFL HOF speech?
