After the Cowboys held the opposition scoreless for the first six quarters of preseason football, team owner Jerry Jones had high praise for the defense. “I can see our defense being special,†Jones said. Jones loved what he watched in the second quarter of the Cowboys’ 28-20 loss to San Diego on Saturday, when Brandon Carr — the Cowboys’ prized acquisition of 2012 — made two interceptions. With the injured Jason Witten sitting next to him, he turned to the tight end and said, “If we get a couple of plays like that in the regular season, it’s a difference-maker. It has you sitting there in the playoffs.†The Cowboys haven’t been to the postseason the last two seasons, in part because they haven’t had personnel in their secondary to make plays like the once Carr pulled off Saturday. “I am encouraged, after what I saw tonight, that we can get some turnovers,†Jones said.

Just like with most teams the Cowboys have major question marks on defense, if key player do what they do and some unknowns step up, yeah they can have a very good defense, but on the flip side, that very defense can be god awful to watch.

    Well said sir.

We need some things to fall into place to be special. The core group of guys are there, we just need our new players to play at a high level and we might have a good chance to be "special".

if all of their secondary additions are home runs (and stay healthy), maybe they could improve.

however, i think their biggest problem may be rob ryan. am I the only one who is severely unimpressed with rob ryan's resume?

what has he actually done with any of his teams that makes us think he's a good d-coordinator?

he's been a d.c. in this league for i believe 8 seasons and his BEST showings have been mediocre defenses, haven't they? Couple that with how many ATROCIOUS defenses he has led and I just don't see what the fascination is with the guy.
