From the outside, the Carolina Panthers' wide receiver corps is a one-man operation -- The Steve Smith Show and Brandon LaFell, the Panthers' No. 2 wideout, understandably doesn't share that same view. "We've got guys that can compete with anybody," LaFell said told the Charlotte Observer on Wednesday, the same day Smith missed practice because of a foot infection. "I don't feel like there's a secondary that really can stop us because we've got as many guys as anyone else has that can get open and make plays." Source: NFL.com
2 games lost by 3 points or less, and one game against Chicago where they lost by 5 and Mare missed two FGs. I would say kicking was the difference between them being 6-10 and 8-8 with a possible 9-7.
Care to provide details on if all of those games came down to a kick at the last second to determine it? Just because a game comes down to a few points doesn't mean it was close all 60 minutes or that it was the kicker's fault the team lost.
Lafell should have just said they were going to the SB. There is a secondary that can stop you, and they will. OH, and what about the teams throwing up points all over them? These guys should keep their mouths shut when they have nothing to show for it.
All of them were games where a missed FG impacted the game. I don't think their offense was unstoppable, but I don't think he was wrong in saying that the kicking game had an effect on their record last season.
No idea why Panthers thought Mare would be better than Kasay, anyway. Still think that LaFell has lost his marbles with this statement.
