The New Orleans Saints offense sputtered last Sunday in the team's 40-32 loss to the Washington Redskins.

Saints quarterback Drew Brees confidently predicts that he and the rest of his unit will soon resemble the NFL-leading force they've been for most of the past six years -- even if Sean Payton's bounty suspension will prevent the head coach from correcting mistakes made in a season-opening upset loss to Washington.

"It's not any coach's fault when you have a holding penalty or when you have a (false start) penalty," Brees said according to the Associated Press, referring to three holding penalties and three false starts. "That's just execution by the guys that are on the field. There's ways that I can improve that. There's ways that the guys up front can improve that. There's ways that everyone on the offense can improve that. It has nothing to do with coaching and who was or wasn't there.

"Sean brings a lot. So not having him, you can certainly say, `Hey, you're missing Sean. But you've got so many other great strengths with the guys that you do have, and we're going to manage."

"We're not in the business of making excuses," Brees said. "Obviously, that's been something that has been talked about a lot during the offseason, during the preseason. In fact, I think it's maybe made too much of a big deal of. For us, it's the guys in our locker room, it's the coaches that are there. Let's take what we've got, move forward. We've built a foundation here. We know how to prepare. Let's focus on the process and know that's a winning formula for us."

Penalties are a huge thing. Their offense got going late. But their defense needs more work than anything.

we scored enough points to win even though it was not as close as the score indicated.

Yeah. It should have been a lot worse. But, the offense will be fine. Just as long as the defense can make stops.

I am worried about that. Maybe the switch will click for them but our front four has to be one of the worst in the league. And Spags defense is predicated on pressure with the front four. Otherwise it will be just like Williams defense. Blitz every down and hope for the best.

So wait 32 points is considered an offense in need of fixing? Granted we played terrible on both ends for a while but we put up 32 freaking points.

true but the game was decided really with 7 minutes to go and they only had 17 points. The other team was probably playing prevent.

Meh it wasnt really the Offense in need of fixing as it was that Defense is really bad.

Half of those points were in garbage time well after the game was decided. Being relatively unable to score on a not very good defense for 3+ quarters when youre supposed to be the next coming of the Greatest Show on Turf, yeah...thats definitely an offense in need of fixing.

I was not at all disappointed in the Offense, the Defense looks like crap not the offense.
