Alex Smith threw two touchdowns to Vernon Davis, Frank Gore ran for 89 yards and a score and the San Francisco 49ers beat the Detroit Lions 27-19 on Sunday night. San Francisco's stout defense smothered Matthew Stafford and Calvin Johnson on a cold, late summer night at Candlestick Park until late in the fourth quarter. The Lions settled for field goals of 41, 40, 38 and 48 yards by Jason Hanson, who also missed a 40-yard attempt off the right upright in the second quarter, before finally scoring a touchdown with 1:29 remaining in the game. The rematch of last season's postgame handshake "mini controversy," as 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh called it this week, certainly had a more civil start. Harbaugh and Lions coach Jim Schwartz waved to each other during pregame warmups and jogged near midfield for a cordial handshake. Source: Associated Press
Great start to the season. Two of their hardest games and they came out winners. Bring on the Vikings!

Im a little confused? This coming from a Cards fan that is also 2-0 and beat the pats in Mass? Freaking nfc west putting the rest of the league on notice!
I look at it this way. I can say we're both 2-0, beat the almighty Patriots, class of the NFC West and be a Homer, OR, I can tell the truth and give the 49er's props because they deserve it. Until we win the NFC West and snitch slap the 49er's, you guys are still best in the West. As far as the NFC West as a Division......4-0 this weekend against the Cowboys, Redskins, Patriots and Lions.....yeah, that's kind of impressive. The AFC West can lay claim to the turd Division in the NFL.
