After erasing what once appeared to be an insurmountable deficit, it has come down to this for the Oakland Athletics -- one game against the Texas Rangers to decide the American League West title. Travis Blackley allowed one run over six innings in a strong bounce-back performance that helped the A's move into a first-place tie with Texas by beating the Rangers 3-1 on Tuesday night. "As long as we believe inside this clubhouse and we know we can get it (done), we're going to do it. I honestly believe we're going to win tomorrow," closer Grant Balfour said. "Nothing is guaranteed, but it's about as good as. I believe we can go out and get it done." And who would doubt these rag-tag A's after the remarkable run they have had to get to this point? Every stinking year the A's are supposed to crap the bed and every year they surprise everybody and end up in the hunt. Really want to see those uniforms in the playoffs this year and bump the Rangers for bragging rights to the West.
I heard on Mike and Mike this morning that their rookie starters have won 53 games this year. That's insane. Plus they are having a rookie start today.
Texas came out firing early in the finale, and now Oakland's up in the 6th. Holy crap the Baby A's are going to win this division!
9-5. A's need 3 outs and they are AL West Champions. I think people thought they'd make the WC, but win the division? Don't think that was ever a possibility for them. Question is now, do the Rangers meltdown and lose Friday too?
