Rams fans might be wise to enjoy watching running back Steven Jackson play the next 12 games, starting Thursday night against the Arizona Cardinals, because it could be the end of his career with the team. Even though Jackson didn't reach the required incentives to void out the final two years of his contract, the team has decided to allow him to void the final year (2013) anyway, which means Jackson will be an unrestricted free agent after the 2012 season. Jackson has been with the Rams since being a first-round pick in 2004 and has led the team in rushing every year since 2005. He ran for 1,145 yards in 2011 and has 195 yards this season. Jackson is 29 years old and was to have a base salary of $7 million in 2013. Source: CBS Sports
yes, this is interesting. not sure why jackson would want to do this. #1 the rams future is finally looking brighter. #2 it's obvious the market for heavily used 30 year old rb's is not good. he may have just screwed himself out of a LOT of money.
But someone will probably sign him to a 3-year or so deal... Arizona Miami Pittsburgh Dallas Detroit Denver Tennessee San Diego To mention a few that could use help next year...
Yes, he has slowed some and gave his best years to Rams teams that were sub par at best. However, I think even Steven Jackson knows, pending injury this year, he has 1, at most 2 years left. He isn't that every down back he's a 3rd down guy... I won't second guess Green Bay, New England or Baltimore for taking a shot with him for a 2/3 year deal. In my opinion this guy deserves a shot at a play off run with a team that he can contribute to.
Jackson's had a lot of wear and been carrying quite a few injuries along the way without taking any significant time out. When taking into consideration that he hits 30 next year as well, I'd be surprised if he gets many multi year offers of great monetary value.
The 2013 Arizona Cardinals starting RB is...... For real, A LOT of teams just got REALLY excited in the pants.
Correct. I'm far from sure that the Rams should invest fully on Daryl Richardson being the future lead tailback, but so far he's been a nice alternative to SJax. Hopefully though Pead can get his arse into gear so that we at least have some form of a 1-2 punch to look towards tho.
