It’s unclear how long the Kansas City Chiefs will be without starting quarterback Matt Cassel, but it seems unlikely he will be available for next Sunday’s game at Tampa Bay after suffering a concussion in the 9-6 loss to Baltimore. Brady Quinn would take over if Cassel can’t play against the Bucs. Quinn’s first job would be to stem the flow of giveaways. Between interceptions and fumbles, Cassel has committed 13 turnovers in five games. Quinn is a better pure passer than Cassel but struggled with his decision-making when he was the starter for the Cleveland Browns. Source: Sporting News
So the Chiefs fans go ahead and cheer while Cassell is out cold. Disgusting. The guy may suck more than not, but you don't freaking cheer when he's out cold. Especially a guy that does what he does for the community... Classless. Again...would be a crap show if this happened in Philly...
yes, people take the nfl too seriously but i can tell you most of the chiefs fans don't hate cassell because he sucks. they accept him for what he is....a back-up QB. they hate the organization for continuing to force cassell down their throats year after year. so the cheers were not because they wanted cassell hurt. the cheers were because they knew, at least for a while, they wouldn't have to watch cassell play and the organization would be forced to play someone else. unfortunately for the fans, the chiefs don't really have a better option at QB. also, i think you would be surprised at how pitt fans would react if they had been put through the same crap as k.c. fans over the last 40 years. pitt fans are some of the most 'serious' fans out there and if they went 40 years and only won 2 playoff games, they would be just as vocal.
I never said that Pittsburgh fans wouldn't do the same and no matter how hard you try to spin it, you don't cheer an unconscious player no matter if he's got the talent of a starter, back up or third string QB. It's classless no matter how you spin it or whomever is doing it Kansas City or Pittsburgh.
i understand your position, and i may sound very cold and callous with this statement (but i know i'm not the only one who feels this way because obviously this IS the topic of conversation in kansas city today and i have talked to many people who feel the same) but it IS just a concussion. it's football. it happens. he will live. and i respect your posts and feel you are a knowledgeable football fan so please don't feel like i'm just trying to start crap with my next comment but i want to point something out .......... i'm going to have to say that you appear to be somewhat contradictory because you have, for years on this site, been vehemently opposed to the nfl cracking down on 'concussion-making hits', yet you then act like some people are barbaric for not sitting in total silence when someone actually gets a concussion. i'm just not sure you can have it both ways. if you are really that concerned about concussions, then you should applaud every effort being made by the league to limit them.
I'm not arguing the hits. I'm not arguing the injury. I'm not seeing the conflict. It's football. Concussions happen, injuries happen. You don't cheer them...especial when a guy is sitting there knocked out. Granted he has blown this year, blew yesterday. You don't have ti sit in silence, hell cheer if you want...its classless.
Sad thing is it isn't the first time and won't be the last. There's some real hate for Cassel out there in KC land. You are going to have the lowest forms of life show up anywhere, and it only takes a few to set the lemmings off.
