The most prolific first half of Alex Smith’s career was just the beginning, as the 49ers produced their largest offensive output ever for a 45-3 rout Sunday of the visiting Buffalo Bills.

The 49ers (4-1) tallied 621 yards, eclipsing the franchise’s previous all-time high of 598 yards that also was set against the Bills, albeit back in 1992 when Steve Young’s 442 passing yards couldn’t prevent a 34-31 defeat.

Smith tallied 237 of his 303 passing yards before halftime Sunday, and while it was his third career 300-yard game, it was his first in winning fashion.

The 49ers’ massive production also saw Frank Gore run for 106 yards while Michael Crabtree and Vernon Davis each totaled over 100 yards receiving.

While the 49ers improved to 4-1 for the second straight season, the Bills fell to 2-3 and showed similar woes from last week’s defeat, in which they surrendered 45 second-half points in a 52-28 loss to the New England Patriots.

It was nice to sit back and watch the 49ers exact revenge for that 41-7 drubbing in 2004 at the hands of the then red hot Bills.

BTW - The niners seem to like early October at home... This thrashing resembled that of the 48-3 annihilation of the Bucs almost a year ago to the date.
