After he missed three games and was determined on pace to be sidelined a fourth, the Chargers placed veteran kicker Nate Kaeding on injured reserve Monday with a groin injury deemed relatively minor. It signed wide receiver Danario Alexander is a corresponding move. Kaeding must be released once he passes a physical. A third-round draft pick in 2004, he would immediately become an unrestricted free agent, able to sign and kick later this season for any team with which he signs. That team is not expected to be the Chargers. "Certainly, I’m a bit surprised, but in this business, you should never be surprised," Kaeding said in a phone interview. "It’s a little tough today because I certainly had envisioned and prepared for and worked toward a different ending and closure for my time in San Diego. … But, yeah, I’ve got a lot of football left in me.
