Mark Kaboly of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review writes that Steelers RB Jonathan Dwyer‘s performance for the rest of the season could ultimately decide whether or not they re-sign Rashard Mendenhall during the offseason. Mendenhall, 25, will be an unrestricted free agent in the coming months and is still working his way back from a torn ACL that he suffered last season. Pittsburgh has cap issues that will have to be addressed and WR Mike Wallace will also be an unrestricted free agent, so big decisions will have to be made. Dwyer, 23, will be a restricted free agent as well, but that will not be much of an obstacle for them. Even if Mendenhall is able to show that he’s healthy, the Steelers could have him split carries with Dwyer in the coming weeks. Source: NFL Trade Rumors
This years "cap issues" shouldn't be issues next year. There's the potential that a lot if money could be freed up after this season.
At times he's been good. Other times he's been "Dancing with the Stars" behind the line of scrimmage. I'm a fan of consistency.
