The Giants' 8-3 win over the Detroit Tigers set a record low television rating for a World Series opener.

Fox said Wednesday night's game received a 7.6 rating and 12 share, and that it was seen by 12.2 million viewers, according to fast national ratings by Nielsen Media Research.

The rating dropped 13 percent from the 8.7/14 for St. Louis' 3-2 victory over Texas in Game 1 last year, which averaged 14.2 million viewers. That broke the low set the previous year when the Giants' 11-7 win over the Rangers received an 8.9.

Fox said this year's opener had a higher rating at 9 p.m. EDT (8.8 to 8.7). But viewership fell after San Francisco took a 6-0 lead behind Pablo Sandoval, who wound up tying the Series record with three home runs.

Not completely true but A) the game was a blowout and B) It's the Tigers and Giants. No one cares about either of these teams. Last years was watched quite a bit but this season no one cares, seemingly at all.

eh, i made an effort to watch the game. went to a bar, played some darts and watched the game. we left about the 6th inning though because baseball is generally boring.

i will watch it during commercials of the nfl game tonight.

I don't have a reason to watch. I watched last year rooting for Texas. But, I have no rooting interest. I'd like the Tigers to win just for Omar Infante and Prince. But eh..doesnt matter either way.

Playoff Baseball is awesome. So is playoff hockey. If all of hockey season were as good as playoff hockey, the crap would be a "legitimate sport" again.

Truth bomb. There is nothing more nerve racking than when your team is in a one goal or tied game with time running down or in overtime during the playoffs. It's almost torture.

Playoff baseball? Meh, still baseball. The pace of the game kills it for me. Playoff hockey? That's a beast like no other IMO.
