The Jets are returning to work after their bye week and Rex Ryan admitted that he opened up the suggestion box to try to fix some of the issues that have plagued his team throughout the first half of the season, Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News reports. Although the Jets are tied for last place in the AFC East at 3-5 at the midway point of the season, Ryan remained optimistic that his team can reverse course. “I can’t tell you how excited I am,†Ryan said on Monday. “I know we’re not where we want to be. We’re not even close. We’re not sniffing the playoffs. We’re not sniffing anything right now. But I want to get there. I’m excited about the prospects in front of us.†Ryan pointed to several fundamental areas that the Jets need to improve on to have any realistic chance of making a playoff run like third-down defense, run defense and establishing a true ground-and-pound attack. He got plenty of ideas from his assistants last week as the Jets prepare for a cross-country trip to Seattle this weekend for a tough road test against the Seahawks. “We got a bunch of suggestions. I hope they’re good,†Ryan said. “But we’re certainly looking at them. It’s kind of a tough thing, because you have to put all your focus on this one thing, but we have to open for different suggestions and things. We definitely have taken them in. We will be doing some different things. I don’t want to get into the specifics of it… If there’s an advantage to be gained, then I want to gain that advantage without letting our opponent know.
