Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger says that a dislocated rib is the bigger concern for him over his separated shoulder. According to the Associated Press, doctors have told the Steelers QB that they are concerned that Roethlisberger's dislocated rib could cut into his aorta. Roethlisberger is already out this week against Baltimore, but said he doesn't believe his season is over. Still, when you're talking about things possibly cutting your aorta, that is cause for major concern. He even said rib pops out of place when he moves his arm sometimes. "I can move (the arm) around, that's not the issue," Roethlisberger said. "Sometimes when I do move it the rib will kind of pop out of place again, which is pretty painful. I just try to keep it as still as I can for the most part." Source: National Football Post

yep, that sounds like a dangerous injury and those rib injuries can sometimes take a while to heal. and the shoulder injury itself is in his throwing arm, right? are we certain Ben is on a week to week basis and not out for an extended period of time?
These diagrams show the sternoclavicular joint...and where it is in relation to the first rib. http://www.shoulderdoc.co.uk/article.asp?section=911
