CBSSports.com NFL Insider Jason La Canfora reports 49ers quarterback Alex Smith will not play Monday night against the Bears because of a concussion suffered Week 10. ESPN first reported Smith had not been cleared to play despite practicing during the week, however, he wore a non-contact jersey each day. Colin Kaepernick will start in Smith's absence. Kaepernick replaced Smith in Week 10, completing 11 of 17 passes for 117 yards. He also rushed for 66 yards and one touchdown, he did an admirable job in Smith's absence, but the Bears will present a far more difficult challenge. Source: CBSSports
That is the million dollar question is it? Kaepernick is the more athletic of the two. I do like the fact that Campbell brings experience to the Bears. This will be a low scoring game tonight.
Campbell is historically awful against the 49ers. Kaep has a ton more upside but much less experience obviously. I dunno about it being low scoring though, I feel like Harbaughs been itching to get Kaep in and open up the playbook, really let it rip. We'll see.
What Campbell has done against the 49ers in the past, that means jackcrap heading into this game. Campbell does have to be smart tonight though.
i completely disagree. his past games against the niners lays the blueprint on how to get in his head and force him to suck
Campbell is better then what he showed last night. Kinda hard to be good when you're o-line isn't blocking for crap and you're getting your brains beat in. Not an excuse, just a fact.
A bad o-line can cause any QB to suck. Hell, I honestly don't think Peyton Manning, Tom Brady, and Drew Brees would survive behind the Bears o-line that has been horrible for years.
i'm not sure campbell fits what the bears need very well and historically i've been a campbell supporter. the bears system and lack of o-line require a quick decision maker/quick trigger. campbell is neither. campbell is a game manager and if given a little time can read a defense and make an accurate throw.
Campbell's long term future is not in Chicago and I knew that when he signed here back in march. When you spend $3.5 million on a backup QB under a one year deal, they're usually playing for a contract elsewhere if they get the chance to play.
Dont forget also that the niners run d SHUT DOWN the Bears run game. Becoming one dimensional like that and falling behind puts a huge amount of pressure on the qb, especially when you have one of the better pass rushing teams against one of the not so good pass blocking teams.
Any QB behind a horrible o-line that can't block for crap will look bad. Even the greatest QB in league history would look mediocore to bad behind the Bears o-line.
