Eagles Coach Andy Reid Says He Will Not Step Down This Season

His team in a free-fall and his fate sealed, Andy Reid was asked if there was any scenario in which he would step down as head coach of the Eagles this season.

“I’m standing in front of the team and telling them, ‘These are the things we need to do, one of which is to continue to battle. And so I think that would be a cop-out,†said Reid. “That’s not how I see things. That’s not the way I’m wired. We’re going to keep battling and do it as a team. I’m not going to tell the guys one thing and then do the other.â€

Does he believe his leadership is still effective?

“I look at everything, so I’m not telling you I don’t look at that,†said Reid. “We’re not winning football games and I take that responsibility. And since I’m in that leadership spot, my leadership right now isn’t good enough.â€

The Eagles have lost six straight and look to be getting worse week by week. The team at 3-7, Reid will almost surely be relieved of his duties after failing to show the “substantial improvement†that owner Jeffrey Lurie was looking for.

“Listen, he’s a competitive guy. No one wants to win more than Jeffrey. I would tell you he is disappointed,†said Reid. “Rightly so. He feels the same way we do, that we’re letting people down in this city and so on. That’s what I can tell you.â€

First of all, it's a dumb question...he's not gonna say, yeah...I'm thinking of stepping down. Maybe check back with me in a couple weeks.

Secondly, the guy has been in Philly for a long time...his time is up, but the guy's not a quitter and he shouldn't have to "step down." After the season, he's gone. Plain and simple.

I've read through the Twitterverse that he has over $5,000,000 at stake if he were to voluntarily step down.

So yeah... they're gonna have to fire him if they want him gone.

This dude has a TON of pride. I'll be for real. I'm going to miss him when he's gone but it's time to move on. He's become complacent. When that happens a change is needed. DAVID SHAW 2013!!!!

For what this is worth, I heard Peter King on the Dan Patrick show last night, and he seems to think that Chip Kelly will leave Oregon and be the new HC at Philly.

He can't step up and he won't step down.

Peter King is in Mile Florio territory IMO. He likes to take something he "heard" from no one and call it news. Chip Kelly isn't coming to Philly.

i have bashed andy enough over the last couple of years but i have nothing but respect for what he did to make football fun again and i will always be grateful for that. i actually feel bad for him at this point considering these players have basically quit on him.

Reid is a classic case of a coach who has been with a team for far too long and cant see when its time to do step down.
He's done, he knows he's done and he knows that most likely no team is going to want him after he gets fired by the Eagles; so he's going to hold on for dear life to what he has.

No team is going to want him?

    Absolutely wrong.

    Cleveland. Lol...

But wouldn't be surprised if he landed in San Diego.

I could actually see him taking a year off to get his family life in order...he's been through a hella lot with his family during these last couple years. It might be nice for him to spend some time with the family and then discuss it later.

When Andy Reid decides he wants to coach again(as Ward said, he SHOULD take a year off to just relax and get everything off field in order) there will be no shortage of teams that will be knocking down his door. The man took this franchise from relative meh to a top team in the NFL. Don't let the last few seasons cloud your view of Reid, dude is a top notch head coach.

yeah and it's embarrassing. that's not reid's fault IMO ... cullen jenkins said it best, every player needs to look in the mirror because that's where the problem lies.

i mean yeah reid is on his way out but have some damn pride in yourself and that fat paycheck you're taking home.

    freaking jerks.
