The Pittsburgh Steelers have signed veteran wide receiver Plaxico Burress, whom they drafted in the first round in the 2000 NFL Draft, says the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. Since leaving the Steelers, Burress has won a Super Bowl with the New York Giants, served a 20-month prison sentence, spent last year with the New York Jets and been searching for another team to give him a chance. The Steelers also added quarterback Brian Hoyer, who was released in final cuts by the New England Patriots this summer. With Ben Roethlisberer and now Byron Leftwich out with injuries, the Steelers needed someone to backup Charlie Batch, who gets the start against Cleveland Sunday. Hoyer beat out former Eagles QB Mike Kafka in Tuesday's audition, while Burress won out over Derrick Williams in the receiver tryouts. Source: National Football Post
