Shayne Graham’s 32-yard field goal with 2:21 left overtime lifted the Houston Texans to a 34-31 win over Detroit on Thursday after the Lions’ coach made a costly mistake in regulation. Detroit kicker Jason Hanson had a chance to get Jim Schwartz off the hook, but his 47-yard field goal attempt on the fifth possession of the extra period hit the right upright. Schwartz threw a challenge flag when Houston’s Justin Forsett scored on an 81-yard touchdown run in the third quarter. Replays showed Forsett was down near midfield, but Schwartz negated the automatic review by challenging the play and was called for unsportsmanlike conduct. Source: Associated Press
Schwartz has bottomed out in Detroit. Did a good job to get them back to some respectability but he's a detriment now.
that was a very entertaining first Turkey Day game ............... and that is a stupid rule. play should have still been automatically reviewed.

I don't care if he called the challenge and that was a "penalty." It's a freaking goobered rule and the referees(the actual ones) just hecked up another game this season.
Stupid rule that still should have been reviewed? yea... Not wanting refs to decide a game? always... Wanting your coach to be bright enough about rules/game situations & not stick it in your butt & break it off cuz of negligent stupidity? No brainer... Schwartz should put a saddle on Suh & ride that butthole off into the Detroit sunset...
It's not the refs, it's the ruling itself. They look at the situation, that is challenged, not the whole play
the play happened right in that area of the field where the umpire has been forced to move back out of the way ..... this is the type of play that the umpires said they might miss when they were moved to their new position ...... if he were still in his old position, he may have gotten a better look at it. however, on that type of play, i believe, at least the referee and linesman are also supposed to be looking at the runner so that if the umpires view gets blocked, there is some back-up there. maybe all 3 of their views were blocked? and the league DOES tell the refs that if they are not sure if a player is down, they are supposed to refrain from blowing the whistle because they figure they have replay back-up as security. the only thing about this whole situation that really needs to be changed is the play not being reviewed automatically even though a coach throws a red flag. it should be reviewed either way.
That loss is all on Schwartz. That wasnt a touchdon and if he had known for rules and not challenged it, the TD would have been overturned and the Lions would have won. Really, this wasnt a good game for either team. The Texans won, sure but you cant call them an elite team anymore or a favorite to win the Super Bowl after struggling this much against a team like the Lions.
eh, we can't really say that. the texans might have still scored on that drive. i think it was only 2nd down. the lions had plenty of opportunity to still win the game and just couldn't close the deal.
