The Patriots have a new version of Mike Vrabel on the current roster, though comparing Rob Ninkovich to the three-time Super Bowl champ might be a tad bit unfair. Still, Ninkovich has been on a roll this season, and he has five forced fumbles and four fumble recoveries after his latest scoop against the Jets. Think it might be time to lobby offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels for a shot near the goal line? “I’ve asked him a few times, but it hasn’t happened yet,†Ninkovich said. “I’m trying to pay my dues.†Vrabel caught eight passes, all for touchdowns, during his career with the Patriots but McDaniels wasn’t drawing up plays for the likes of Rob Gronkowski and Aaron Hernandez during those days, so there were more opportunities for someone such as Vrabel. McDaniels shot down Ninkovich’s application for a part-time job yesterday. “I think we have enough tight ends,†McDaniels laughed. “Rob is doing a good enough job on defense, and he should stay over there.†Source: Boston Herald
