For the second time in three weeks, the St. Louis Rams and San Francisco 49ers battled past regulation in a hard-fought NFC West tussle but unlike their Week 10 meeting, Sunday's eerily similar tilt ended with a winner, as Greg Zuerlein connected on a 54-yard field goal with 26 seconds remaining in OT to give the Rams a 16-13 victory at Edward Jones Dome.

Both Zuerlein and David Akers missed field goals in overtime during a 17-17 outcome three weeks ago and Akers was off the mark again in the rematch, narrowly pushing a 51-yard try wide right with 4:11 remaining in the extra session.

Steven Jackson, one week after amassing a season-high 139 rushing yards, was limited to 48 yards on 21 carries, while Sam Bradford completed 26-of-39 passes for 221 yards.

Colin Kaepernick, in his third game as starter after Alex Smith suffered a concussion against the Rams, had two costly mistakes in the setback. The inexperienced signal-caller was whistled for a safety and lost a fumble that resulted in a tying touchdown and two-point conversion with 3:04 to play in the fourth quarter.

What a crap show. Akers needs to be benched until he's healthy, I cant believe they let him play. Any of the kickers they tried out could have drilled that 40. I can forgive Kaep some dumb inexperienced mistakes, it's gonna happen here and there for a while...I just hope this doesnt begin some goobered weekly flip flop at QB. You chose Kaep, now roll with it. Let him take his lumps without looking over his shoulder.

Harbaugh can't go back to Smith now because he chose Kaepernick as his boy so now he has to live with it. Unless he decides to go with the " hot hand " again..

No doubt Harbaugh possibly backed himself into the corner with the qb situation. He can't flip flop between the two each week. He sent a message to the team that he thinks Kaepernick is the guy so what can he do now? If he goes back to Smith then the team will be like " w t f " and Kaepernick's confidence is shot, but it's not like Smith's isn't either.

Growing pains. I'm sure Kaepernick will learn from them and kick butt next week. You'll see. :icon_cheesygrin:

bottom line is walker should have caught that td pass and akers should have hit the fg. kaepernick put them in a position to win. that cute crap with the ginn was a terrible play call. you dont try that risky crap that close to the endzone. niners beat themselves

True, but if not for Kaep wouldn't have mattered. Without Kaep this game would've been a shut out. Hell, if had stayed in bounds on the run on the last drive, we probably wouldn't have seen overtime, and that mistake isn't even being discussed.

the 49ers are everybody's darling and people have been putting their money where their mouth is since the 49ers have been the SB winning favorite in Vegas much of the year.

the 49ers may be good enough to win it all but i have struggled all season to see what others are apparently seeing. Maybe it's just me, but this team doesn't seem 'clutch' and if they face a good defense, most of the time they look anemic and can't generate much of anything on offense.

having said that, considering they should still be able to lock up the #2 playoff seed, there is a good chance their first opponent after the bye would be green bay and i like their chances to beat them.

however, i still don't see how they beat a giants defense that pretty much has their number if they meet again in january.
