Aldon Smith's sack of Ryan Tannehill at the beginning of the second quarter gave him 18 ½ overall and put him in first place on the 49ers' single-season sack list. Smith had been in a tie with Hall-of-Fame defensive end Fred Dean, who had 17 ½ sacks in 1983.

Smith now is four and a half sacks from overtaking ex-New York Giant defensive end Michael Strahan for the NFL's single-season sack mark. Strahan had 22 ½ sacks in 2001.
