Cowboys Eye Play-Calling Offensive Coordinator For Jason Garrett

The Dallas Cowboys are planning to make changes after failing to make the playoffs for a second consecutive season under coach Jason Garrett.

NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reported Monday that Garrett's job is secure, but Dallas does plan to bring in help on the offensive side of the ball.

"The Cowboys intend to keep Jason Garrett, I have not heard this morning that that has changed," Rapoport told NFL Network's "Around the League" on Monday. "A better possibility is that the Cowboys could hire an offensive coordinator to call plays for Jason Garrett and allow him to be a walk-around coach and essentially just be the leader of men that they think he can be."

The move would require some finessing of titles because offensive line coach Bill Callahan also holds the title of offensive coordinator. Callahan's role is more hands off because Garrett has called plays in Dallas during his 21-19 run with the team. That obviously would change.

    I would love it

Sparano is a good fit here too if Callahan leaves. It's a coaching system with Garrett that Sparano has thrived. However I don't want to "get rid" of Callahan, as he is a better coach then Sparano and did a good job with a line that year that didn't return a single player at the same position they played last.year and three new starter total. One who wasn't even in camp with us

Cam Cameron is a possibility too

When Garrett was up for the Baltimore job, Cameron was his choice for OC

Really? he's pathetic! that is why he is out of the league now,he's an awful OC! If i were a cowboy fan, besides having thoughts of suicide,i would hope like hell that cameron or norv turner got hired over sparano! i hear the jets are using his playbook from this year as toilet paper in the jets business offices cause that is all that it is good for!

It's about fit. Sparano works well with Garrett. Those two worked together in 2007, and Sparano did well with Haley.in 2006. We know how to use Sparano

Fire Wade Wilson hire Sparano in his place and bring Norv in as OC. While keeping Callahan as Offensive line coach. And if Jason cant win with that setup he just cant win.

Sparanos an OL coach, not a QB coach

Well from the way Romo played this season I would say Wades not a QB coach either.

They have the talent in the skill positions. It's that repugnant o-line that needs to be shored up. Give them some hogs up front and they can make some noise. Romo's going to be Romo. You never know when his next brain fart is coming, no matter who his coach is. But he's better than anything you can bring in to replace him. Now is execution all on the coach? Can't be.

i have never liked garrett's play calling so someone new probably couldn't be much worse.

They need to shift the emphasis from Romo to the running game. That's how Elway got his 2 rings.

I Think that if dallas really wants to contend in the nfc east, they should offer norv turner whatever he wants to become their OC! Dallas, under norv turner calling the plays in the 1990s,were virtually unstoppable! he made irvin, emmitt, and aikman into the pro hall of famers they are! only reason dallas did not win more super bowls back then was the simple fact that jerry jones and jimmy johnson's egos could not coexsist! If the cowboys could get him back and somehow convince jerry jones to retire or hire a gm,they'd be tough to beat!

well, shifting to the running game was important but the main factor was romanowski roiding them all up.

JJ is NEVER retiring or hiring a GM. Forget it!

And that is why the cowboys will not win another super bowl until he dies or his liver becomes an issue and he has to leave the position because of it!

The Oline sucks because they dont draft worth a crap. In the last 12 years we probably drafted about 20 lineman and Andre Gurode has been the best of the bunch so far. In fact most of our picks in that time have been a waste. I just dont think they can judge talent. Ragman I agree we just dont get the running game involved enough. But you have to start worrying about Murrays durability. He could be great but he has to stay on the field. And we all know Jones is a wash. And then you have to consider Garrett as the playcaller. There are problems with this organization and it starts with Jerry Jones and trickles down to the rest of the team. Jerry talks about changes, but the biggest changes are needed in the front offices of the team.

And thats going to be the reason we wont win another Superbowl.
